Dear Colleagues
HEI and research libraries all over the world have to guarantee that digital content owned by them are digitally preserved for the long term, using some kind of dark archive<http://preservationmatters.blogspot.com/2013/05/light-dark-and-dim-archives-what-are.html>. This is in addition to the content management systems (e.g. OJS<https://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/>) used to increase access and visibility.
Some digital preservation options available include CLOCKSS<https://www.clockss.org/clockss/Home>, LOCKSS<http://www.lockss.org/>, PKP LOCKSS<https://pkp.sfu.ca/pkp-lockss/>, DIRISA (SA DST initiative for Big Data), and more.
ASSAf has investigated various options, and has decided to subscribe to Portico<http://www.portico.org/digital-preservation/> to digitally preserve journal articles and accompanying data sets. It is cost-effective/affordable, professional and is for example used by Pubmed Central/Medline.
Both publishers and libraries can subscribe to this service. Read more at: http://www.portico.org/digital-preservation/
With kind regards
Ina
