RESPONSIBILITIES:



The incumbent will be responsible for:



   - Proactive identification of the current and future information needs
   of clients;
   - Improving research enablement, scientometrics (bibliometrics,
   altmetrics, webometrics), patent searching and professional knowledge and
   skills continuously;
   - Contributing to the strategy formulation, implementation and ensure
   operational plans for the Research Commons are in place as a member of DLS
   management team;
   - Delivering a proactive, effective and efficient research support
   service that advance research and international profile of the University;
   - Strategic partnering with the Department of Research and Innovation in
   planning and implementing the Early Career Academic and Postgraduate
   workshops;
   - Designing customised information products and services relevant to
   clients’ needs;
   - Marketing information products and services;
   - Supporting research activities of the relevant client groups;
   - Facilitating information access process;
   - Participating in organisational initiatives/projects;
   - Leading and coordinating all UP Research Commons.



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



   - A four-year library degree (e.g B.Bibl, Degree plus PG Dip.LIS or
   B.Inf (Hons);
   - Four years’ experience in the following:
      - Research experience;
      - Training and presenting experience (both physical and virtually
      using variety of tools);
      - Coordinator responsibilities of a unit/section.



REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):



   - Knowledge or experience in the various research processes;
   - Bibliometric knowledge and skills;
   - Training and presentation experience (both physical and virtually
   using a variety of tools);
   - Building information retrieval strategies;
   - Knowledge of Libguides and Blackboard;
   - Supervision skills;
   - Marketing methods/procedures;
   - Information management skills;
   - Information analyzing, evaluating and organizing skills;
   - Negotiation skills;
   - Emotional intelligence;
   - Communication skills across cultural borders;
   - Marketing skills;
   - Creativity and innovation;
   - Adaptability.



ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:



   - A Masters in Library and Information Science or related fields.
   - Two years’ experience in the following:
      - Bibliometric and research support;
      - Patent searching (prior art searching);
      - Liaising and serving executive or related high profile clients.



PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in
relevant skills assessments and/or psychometric testing as part of the
selection process.



The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s
level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes
to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the
applicable monthly premium.
