Subject: [WEB4LIB] Position opening: Professorship in Open Access / Open
Data in Potsdam, Germany
To: WEB4LIB at listserv.nd.edu

The Faculty of Information Sciences at Potsdam University of Applied
Sciences is seeking to fill the following post at the earliest possible
opportunity:

Professorship in Library Science (W2)
Reference 23 / 2016

The professorship may be held on a part-time basis (75%).
Courses are generally held in German, but the ability to offer courses in
the English language would be highly desirable.

The holder of the post will be expected to take responsibility for teaching
and research in the subject areas of Open Access and Open Data.

The University strives to increase the proportion of women in teaching and
research and thus expressly encourages applications from female scientists
and academics. Applicants with disabilities will be preferred where equal
suitability for the post is demonstrated.
In particular, the following teaching areas must be covered:

• concepts, methods and models of open access, open data, etc.,
• electronic publishing incl. university theses repositories, university
publishing houses, data journals, etc.,
• principles of different licensing models for the publication of articles,
data, etc. (e.g. Creative Commons).

Should the professorship be held on a full-time basis, over and above this,
a commitment to the following teaching areas would be desirable:
• takeover of integrative classes on the principles of descriptive
cataloguing with a view to the current development of the systems of
rules and workflows,
• principles of copyright, personality rights, etc.,
• aspects of information ethics in connection with publication processes.
The subject areas mentioned should primarily be taught on the "Library
Science" course but also be integrated within the Bachelor's courses in
"Information and Data Management" and "Archiving" as well as the Master's
course in "Information Science" offered by the faculty. For this reason, a
particular aptitude for integration and working in a team, and a high
degree of readiness to engage in interdisciplinary work are essential.
Suitable candidates will meet the conditions of employment as set out in §
41, para. 1, nos. 1 to 3 and 4b of the Brandenburg Universities Act
(BbgHG). In addition, candidates will preferably have in-depth practical
experience of working in the field of information science (e.g. in academic
libraries) and have relevant teaching experience and university didactic
skills. Furthermore, the requirements also include participation in
interdisciplinary, cross-departmental courses that are oriented towards the
didactic principle of research-based learning, and the delivery of
English-language and online-supported courses. Moreover, a high degree of
commitment to the strategic and profile development of the Bachelor's
programme in "Library Science" as well as the in-service distance learning
programme in "Library Management" is expected. The requirements of the
professorship include a commitment to involvement in academic
self-government, applied research and continuing academic education. The
professorship is financed by the state of Brandenburg’s programme to expand
student numbers and is initially limited to a salaried employment
relationship of five years. It may be possible to offer the post holder a
limited or unlimited extension to his or her position subject to the
availability of budgetary means, a positive evaluation and continuing
incorporation in the development plans of the University without the post
being re-advertised. In the event that the duration of the appointment is
extended, it may be possible to convert the employment relationship to
civil servant status, provided that the post holder meets the requirements
for this.

Applications with the usual supporting documents must be forwarded quoting
the above reference number by 31/08/2016 to: Fachhochschule Potsdam
Dean’s Office - Faculty of Information Science
PO Box 60 06 08, D-14406 Potsdam
