*We are delighted to welcome Artefactual Systems Inc. as the newest
affiliate member of the Open Preservation Foundation (OPF); the first since
we launched our new membership model in June 2015.*

Artefactual Systems is the lead developer of three open-source software
tools, Archivematica (https://www.archivematica.org/) for digital
preservation, AtoM (https://www.accesstomemory.org/) for archival
description and online access, and Binder (
http://binder.readthedocs.org/en/latest/) for digital repository management.

Artefactual’s affiliate contribution will focus on the development,
maintenance and public release management of the Format Identification for
Digital Objects <http://openpreservation.org/technology/products/fido/> (FIDO)
software tool. FIDO is included in Archivematica, but can also be used as a
stand-alone command line tool or incorporated into other digital
preservation systems.

“By becoming an affiliate member of the Open Preservation Foundation,
Artefactual hopes to contribute to and benefit from the well-being of the
open-source ecosystem of tools and services that we believe is essential to
supporting digital preservation in the heritage community” explains Evelyn
McLellan, President of Artefactual Systems Inc.

“We are delighted to welcome Artefactual Systems to our membership”
comments Ed Fay, Executive Director of OPF. “They bring a wealth of
experience in open source development and will be carrying out work on
FIDO, a file format identification tool, which benefits the whole digital
preservation community”.

Artefactual Systems joins OPF members from archives, libraries, research
institutions, universities, and service providers collaborating on shared
solutions for effective and efficient digital preservation.
