[Irtalk] Combined PhD/Collected PhD/Compiled PhD

Not sure whether it is called a Combined PhD/Collected PhD/Compiled PhD, but was wondering how repositories deal with it. Usually - when a researcher publishes an article, they sign away copyright. Some publishers allow the researcher to retain copyright, which might include reprinting the article (or articles) as a chapter as part of a dissertation. Either way, it is recommended that the researcher has permission to use the article or has retained the right to publish the article as part of the dissertation.

Maybe also make researchers/academics proactively aware when lobbying for open access, and an open access policy, etc. Also worthwhile to investigate what the policy of your institution is in terms of a Combined PhD/Collected PhD/Compiled PhD. Do you perhaps indicate - as part of the metadata - that it is a Combined PhD/Collected PhD/Compiled PhD (maybe dc.type)?

The way in which doctoral students are being assessed
Countries that traditionally have not had examinations during doctoral study are introducing oral examinations. Students (specifically in the natural sciences and economics) increasingly have the possibility of choosing between a traditional dissertation or a compilation of several peer-reviewed articles based on their research. Higher education institutions are beginning to adopt policies that recognise such articles as well as dissertation chapters with multiple authors.
