Usually – when a researcher publishes an article, they sign away copyright. Some publishers allow the researcher to retain copyright, which might include reprinting the article (or articles) as a chapter as part of a dissertation. Either way, it is recommended that the researcher has permission to use the article or has retained the right to publish the article as part of the dissertation.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Maybe also make researchers/academics proactively aware when lobbying for open access, and an open access policy, etc. Also worthwhile to investigate what the policy of your institution is in terms of a Combined PhD/Collected PhD/Compiled PhD.
