Important announcement: http://www.librarytechnology.org/ltg-displaytext.pl?RC=19663.
As a sidenote:
Zepheira is a company specializing in linked data, semantic web, etc. They were instrumental in the development of the new BIBFRAME framework (to replace MARC as a communication format) in cooperation with the Library of Congress.
The BIBFRAME framework is expressed in RDF which in turn is packaged as XML - the building block for the semantic web. RDF, likewise to RDA (developed by IFLA to slowly replace AACR2) is grounded on FRBR, which in turn finds it roots in Peter Chen's entity relationships model (or ERD = Entity Relational Diagram) commonly used for database modelling.
So in a nutshell the discipline of librarianship together with computer science meet to build semantic web constructs. Now all that's left is to wonder how long still will ISBD (with its 7 access points) remain relevant in today's interlinked and semantic web world. Off course ISBD is strongly protected by IFLA...
Regards,
Wouter
