Dear African scholarly publishing community (please also share widely),
We are incredibly proud of the progress made on our continent! This is the result of the collective hard work of so many people and communities, as well as the great support received from DOAJ itself.
Please see the DOAJ Annual Highlights for 2025 here: https://zenodo.org/records/20152107
The number of African journals included in DOAJ currently stands at 840.
This year, the African Ambassadors hope to focus on scholarly journals from Nigeria, supported by the Ambassador for West Africa, Dr Oluchi Okere; Ghana, supported by the Ambassador for West Africa, Angela Aikins; as well as Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. Francophone Africa and Morocco also remain priorities. DOAJ is - amongst others - looking forward to be represented at the upcoming African National Libraries Forum, which will be held on 10 and 11 June 2026 at the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat.
However, should you be from any other African country and need one of the Ambassadors to deliver a presentation (webinar) or provide any other form of support, please do get in touch.

Ambassador for Northern Africa: Prof Kamel Belhamel email: kamel at doaj.org
  *
Ambassadors for West Africa: Dr Oluchi Okere email: oluchi at doaj.org; Angela Aikins email: angela at doaj.org

Thank you for all your hard work and continued support towards a more equitable and just global scholarly publishing ecosystem, in which all voices matter!
With kind regards,
Ina
