[IRTalk] Journals requiring thesis disclosure statement?

Dear Colleagues

UCT recently discovered that a local publisher (AOSIS) now wants
explicit disclosure whenever an article is related to a thesis.

see:
https://safpj.co.za/index.php/safpj/pages/view/submission-guidelines#part_2

We have not seen this before. In fact, we have an old rule that
generally disallows disclosing that an article is related to thesis
research.

It seems reasonable to have links in both directions and we cannot
fathom why the old rule exists. Could this be to prevent bias or conflicts?

Does any other institution have such a rule? Has anyone else had to
change rules because of the new AOSIS author declaration?

Regards,
    Hussein Suleman
