Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) is a coalition of organizations working to organize and deliver funding for open scholarly infrastructure at scale from the most obvious beneficiaries: the global institutions and agencies that form the bulk of academic support and funding today. This role will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities of IOI, working with the Steering Committee to define and execute a plan to unlock substantial and durable funding for open scholarly infrastructure. This involves managing the program work, staff, and fundraising as needed for programmatic activities, developing and engaging with the IOI Steering Committee and the partner organizations.

We are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit to work with the IOI Steering Committee to develop and launch new initiatives aimed at expanding support for open scholarly infrastructure. This role will engage in everything from strategic planning and communications, cross-org collaboration, day-to-day tasks, hiring processes, fundraising, and overall program design and management.

This role is responsible for managing the IOI project, a fiscally sponsored project of Code for Science & Society (CS&S). The role reports to the IOI Advisory Committee, part of the larger IOI Steering Committee.

Core Responsibilities
·         Develop the vision for and scope of IOI in partnership with the IOI Steering Committee
·         Arrange and oversee deliverables, time-tables, and budget allocation for program activities
·         Manage personnel, contractors, and projects
·         Act as a liaison between stakeholders, the project Steering Committee, and other staff
·         Work with Steering Committee to develop and execute IOI program activities, including:
o    Coordinate efforts to gather data on open scholarly infrastructure and the individual projects and organizations which provide it
o    Map the institutions, agencies and foundations that can provide ongoing support for open scholarly infrastructure
o    Develop models for how new projects or innovations might be identified, selected and seed funded
o    Develop partnerships to test models of funding open infrastructure
·         Engage with the potential participants and work with them to understand their needs and concerns
·         Initiate, develop, and manage relationships with funders, stakeholders, and partners
·         Develop a fundraising and sustainability plan
·         Oversee search and hiring processes to grow the team, as needed
·         Manage, encourage, and facilitate cross-organizational collaboration
·         Participate in IOI governance and with appropriate committees or working groups to facilitate planning and strategy
Skills and Experience
·         Ability to bring a vision into reality
·         Strong organizational and leadership qualities
·         Outstanding written and oral communication skills
·         Extremely detail­ oriented, thorough, and organized
·         Deep knowledge of scholarly institutions, services, and their current sources of funding
·         Deep knowledge of open source infrastructure
·         Experience in assessing and understanding technology, related services, and standards
·         A hands-on attitude towards understanding and explaining new technology and systems
·         7+ years experience working in one or more aspects of scholarly communication or open infrastructure
·         Ability to interact with all levels of employees; strong collaboration and interpersonal skills; ability to work well within a team
·         Ability to develop and manage relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholder communities and preferably a track record of successful fundraising
·         Excellent time and project management skills
·         Ability to problem solve under pressure and anticipate needs
·         Experience working with distributed teams to develop and execute projects and programs
Details of the Position
·         IOI is a fiscally sponsored project of Code for Science & Society, which offers employee benefits to US full-time employees through TriNet<https://www.trinet.com/> including health insurance and retirement.
·         This position does not provide a work visa for any specific nation. Candidates should already be able to work legally where they are based.
·         This position may be 75% time or full time, depending on the needs of the candidate.
·         The Steering Committee is distributed across the US and Europe; the candidate should be able to easily collaborate with and travel to Central European, US Eastern, and US Pacific time zones.
·         CS&S is a fully remote organization, IOI project staff will work remotely (but may make individual arrangements with partner organizations for desk space).
·         Travel to conferences, events, and meetings is anticipated to be 25%.
