The National Science Technology and Innovation Information Portal<http://www.naci.org.za/nstiip/> (NSTIIP) is one of the outcomes of NACI (National Advisory Council on Innovation)<http://www.naci.org.za/>.

The National Council on Innovation Act, 1997 (Act No. 55 of 1997), provides the mandate for NACI (2015). The Act mandates NACI to advise the Minister for Science and Technology and, through the Minister, Cabinet, on the role and contribution of science, mathematics, innovation and technology, including indigenous technologies, in promoting and achieving national objectives, namely, to improve and sustain the quality of life of all South Africans, develop human resources for science and technology, build the economy, and strengthen the country's competitiveness in the international arena.

NSTIIP to provide a collective view of SA initiatives in terms of science, technology and innovation. Reliable, accurate and accessible data is useful to assess how the National System of Innovation (NSI) is progressing and to measure its contribution to national development. The National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Portal makes use of the developments in technology to collect and curate innovation-related data and information about the NSI to an easily accessible central repository. It is meant to be a credible resource for policymakers, experts and other stakeholders. The Portal stores data that support a range of stakeholders in the NSI. Through the wide range of data, it is able to deliver a better understanding of the NSI over time.
