Re-launch: Nexus Current and Completed Research Projects (Masters and Doctoral)
The NRF is re-launching the Current and Completed Research Projects (Masters and
Doctoral) platform, migrating from Nexus Current and Completed Projects. This more modern,
up-to-date DSpace system will provide open access to more than 180 000 postgraduate titles
(Postgraduate) from all HEIs and associated institutions.

The new metadata template includes the full proposal or abstract attachment; the ORCID; and
is Open Access compliant. In tandem with the emerging network of institutional repositories in
South Africa, the database promises to become a central link of the national infrastructure for
e-research to the global research network. It is, therefore, important that stakeholders support
this initiative in order to provide an international showcase of emerging South African research
outputs.

The DSpace platform will allow individual institutions to upload new items from their side
(using authorised submitter workflow). The new process is intended to clear backlogs and
ensure postgraduate proposals metadata (full/abstracts) are published on the Internet once
approved and registered. NRF will also consolidate the NEXUS database and integrate it with
the South African National Theses and Dissertations portal in the future.

In order for the new workflow to be a success, your office needs to liaise with the institutional
stakeholders (including the University Library directorate) to ensure all registered
postgraduate theses and dissertations works are captured and disseminated through the
national databases - NEXUS: Current and Completed Research Projects, as well as the South
African Theses and Dissertations portal.
