Make the transition to an online, open access journal
With Open Journal Systems<https://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/> it is possible to address all the criteria for a high quality open access journal. Either host the open source software yourself, host in the cloud, or host it with PKP<http://journals.assaf.org.za/blog/2016/11/12/ojs-journal-hosting-solution-pkp-publishing-services/> (approximately R 12 000-00 per annum - everything you need included in this package<https://pkpservices.sfu.ca/content/journal-hosting>) . The software is fully web compliant and harvested/indexed by search engines and other harvesters. It also simplifies and automates many of the processes involved in scholarly publishing, for example:

- Unique article identifiers: Automatically generates DOIs, and register the metadata with Crossref.

- Increased visibility: With the click of a button, generates an XML file for metadata, to be uploaded to DOAJ for increased visibility.

- Digital preservation: Provided that it has been setup correctly, content can be automatically archived with PKP LOCKSS or third parties such as Portico.

- Web: It offers a web page and journal management system all in one. You can make the web page as attractive as you want.

- Audit trail: It keeps track of all communications, files, actions, and automatically record it in the history of each and every article/journal.

- Base URL: Other harvesters can harvest the metadata through the Base URL for the journal. The full text therefore remains where it is (on the OJS site), with harvesters pointing to the primary article. This also important to track statistics.

- Plagiarism check: Provided that you subscribe to e.g. iThenticate, it can become part of the workflow for the article.

- Install OJS once, and host an unlimited number of journal titles on one OJS installation.

- And many, many more!

This is a highly affordable solution for journals, reducing the costs involved tremendously. Although the software is freely available and extremely powerful, one would require a system administrator to install it. Should you need any assistance in using the software, we can assist with that. We also hope to present more training sessions on using OJS in the coming year.

Looking forward to you joining us this coming Friday!

Kind regards
Ina
