Subject: [dspace-community] NOTICE: DSpace 5.x sites have out-of-order
author lists in Google Scholar harvested metadata
To: DSpace Community <dspace-community at googlegroups.com>
Hi all,
I'm forwarding on the below note from Darcy Dapra of the Google Scholar
team regarding DSpace 5.x sites. Currently, we have a small bug which can
cause the list of authors to be out-of-order in the Google Scholar
metadata. This bug was accidentally introduced in DSpace 5.x and does not
affect earlier versions. It only affects the metadata which is harvested by
Google Scholar, and not the author listing in the DSpace user interface
itself.
We are planning on a 5.4 release in the near future (likely sometime in
November) which will resolve this issue (and a few other bugs). In the
meantime, there is a patch which would allow you to immediately fix this
issue on your 5.x site (https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/999).
====================
DSpace 5.x releases have an error in generation of machine-readable
bibliographic metadata for indexing. This error causes the list of authors
to be reordered (see <https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-2679>
https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-2679 for details). Google Scholar
isn't able to index repositories with this error.
Colleagues in the DSpace community have put together a patch to fix this
problem. It is available at <https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/999>
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/999
If you are currently running a DSpace 5.x instance, we strongly recommend
applying this patch. This would make the authors happier (name order is of
much importance to authors). It would also re-enable Google Scholar
indexing.
