The successful incumbent will be responsible for the operational working of and service delivery in the Carnegie Research Commons.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:30

Duties:

 Providing a high quality service to clients of the Research Commons (master’s and doctoral students as well as researchers at the University);

 supporting clients with IT-related queries, the video conferencing facility, plagiarism and copyright;

 developing training material for clients, especially bibliographic reference techniques (e.g. RefWorks. EndNote, Zotero and Mendeley);

 recruitment, training and supervising student assistants working in the Research Commons;

 marketing of services, social events and other training opportunities that are offered to clients in the Research Commons through different mediums, such as brochures, social media, newsletters and the webpage;

 responsible for the physical facilities in the Research Commons, including the IT equipment, software, furniture, and other equipment;

 information resources management (evaluating and procuring material) relating to clients of the Research Commons;

 responsible for overall administration, usage statistics and day-to-day maintenance of the Research Commons;

 responsible for quality assurance, for example LibQUAL and other surveys through focus groups, questionnaires, etc.;

 responsible for the information management of the Library and Information Service;

 serving on the Quality Committee of the Library and Information Service.



Requirements:

 B-degree in Library and Information Science or an equivalent qualification;

 minimum five years’ experience within an academic or research library environment;

 sound knowledge of the analysis of statistics;

 a high level of computer proficiency;

 excellent oral and written communication skills;

 good training and presentation skills;





 excellent interpersonal relations;

 knowledge of new technologies and the use thereof in the research environment;

 advanced knowledge of and experience with bibliographic reference management and software such as Refworks, Mendeley, Endnote and Zotero;

 knowledge of plagiarism, copyright and the structure of theses and dissertations;

 advanced experience in the use of MS Word and Excel;

 ability to work independently;

 excellent administrative skills.



Recommendations:

 Knowledge of and experience in the collection and analysis of statistics with different software;

 knowledge of changing trends and best practices regarding research support and academic libraries;

 knowledge of quality assurance and LibQUAL in academic libraries;

 knowledge of the gathering and processing of management information in an academic library;

 active professional involvement in relevant interest groups, such as LIASA.
