In the pursuit of the ideals of excellence and diversity, the

The UP digital research repository is one of the most important
platforms of UP open access research. Both digitised and digitally born
material form part of the repository’s content. The Manager and
Developer of the repository is responsible for the smooth functioning of
work processes, quality of the repository (trusted repository) and
excellent interface management with other role players. An excellent
understanding of the role of the repository in the research cycle or
process is essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
● Management of the UP digital research repository within the
research framework / life cycle;
● Management of the interfaces relevant to the repository, e.g.
digitisation, open scholarship, copyright and digital preservation;
● Management of the client interfaces with the repository in
consultation with information specialists and other e-service managers;
● Continuous innovation of repository practices by implementing
relevant new tools and practices;
● Quality assurance of the repository process.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
● A relevant honours degree in, e.g. Information Science, Library
Science or Informatics;
● Five years’ experience in a library or information service
environment;
● Experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of
e-information systems;
● Good knowledge of HTML / XML and Web 2 tools;
● Excellent knowledge of the information environment and the research
process;
● Project management knowledge.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
● A relevant research master’s degree;
● Experience in the information environment of teaching, learning and
research;
● Knowledge of Java programming and repository software (currently
DSpace);
● Linux knowledge;
● Knowledge of research and development as well as change management.
The total remuneration package for this position ranges from
approximately R356 086 to R438 911 as determined by UP policy
guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to
standard UP benefits namely provident fund, group life and funeral
cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies
per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and
contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

In die nastrewing van die ideale van uitnemendheid en diversiteit, word
aansoeke vir die bogenoemde pos ingewag.
Die Universiteit van Pretoria se verbintenis tot kwaliteit maak ons een
van die top navorsingsuniversiteite in die land en gee ons ‘n
mededingende voordeel in internasionale wetenskap- en
tegnologie-ontwikkeling.
Die UP digitale navorsingspakhuis is een van die belangrikste platforms
vir UP oop-toegang navorsing. Die pakhuis se inhoud bestaan uit beide
gedigitiseerde en digitale materiaal. Die Bestuurder en Ontwikkelaar van
die pakhuis is verantwoordelik vir die gladde funksionering van
werksprosesse, kwaliteit van die pakhuis (“trusted repository”) en
uitstekende koppelvlakbestuur met ander rolspelers. ’n Uitstekende
begrip van die rol van die pakhuis in die navorsingsiklus of –proses
is noodsaaklik.
PLIGTE:
Die suksesvolle kandidaat sal verantwoordelik wees vir:
● Die bestuur van die UP digitale navorsingspakhuis binne die
navorsingsraamwerk / -lewensiklus;
● Die bestuur van koppelvlakke relevant tot die pakhuis, bv.
digitisering, oop-toegang, kopiereg en digitale preservasie;
● Die bestuur van kliëntkoppelvlakke met die pakhuis in konsultasie
met die inligtingkundiges en ander e-diensbestuurders;
● Deurlopende innovasie van pakhuispraktyke deur die implementering
van nuwe toepassings en praktyke;
● Kwaliteitsversekering van die pakhuisproses.
MINIMUM VEREISTES:
● ‘n Relevante honneursgraad in bv. Inligtingkunde, Biblioteekkunde
of Informatika;
● Vyf jaar ervaring in ’n biblioteek- of inligtingsdiens omgewing;
● Ervaring in die ontwikkeling, implementering en instandhouding van
e-inligtingstelsels;
● Goeie kennis van HTML / XML en Web 2 toepassings;
● Uitstekende kennis van die inligtingsomgewing en die
navorsingsproses;
● Projekbestuur kennis.
AANBEVELINGS:
● ‘n Relevante navorsingsmagistergraad;
● Evaring in die inligtingsomgewing van onderrig, leer en navorsing;
● Kennis van Java programmering en pakhuisprogrammatuur (huidiglik
DSpace);
● Linux kennis;
● Kennis van navorsing en ontwikkeling sowel as veranderingsbestuur.
Volgens UP-beleid en -riglyne wissel die jaarlikse vergoedingspakket
vir hierdie pos tussen ongeveer R356 086 tot R438 911. (Hierdie bedrae
sluit die Universiteit se bydrae tot standaard UP-voordele in, naamlik
voorsorgfonds en groeplewensversekering asook begrafnisdekking, maar
sluit nie mediesefonds bydraes in nie, aangesien dit per personneellid
verskil.) UP onderskryf die BESTMED mediese skema en dra 50% van die
toepaslike maandelikse paaiement by.
Aansoekers word versoek om elektronies aansoek te doen met vermelding
