repeat the presentation, but is currently travelling. He indicated that

Hi Bongiwe and everybody.

Yes, we are pressured to improve our rankings, but in the end realised
that it is much more complicated than just a technical issue!

Prof Mouton's presentation was very detailed and the major points
really needs to be explained by him as it is rather involved.

We benefitted a lot from his presentation and it boils down to the fact
that the researcher needs to get involved online much more for the
university to benefit.

His presentation is also more focussed towards the overall university
ranking, not specifically for the IR raking. But it also has relevance
for our IR's.

Ina, could you organise such a webinar with him? I don't have his
detail available.

rankings. I'm sure we'll get points that would be an eye opener and
beneficial to us. We are also facing the same challenge as you. Our IR

I agree. We supply the content and vehicle but it is not possible for
us to advance the linking.
The research office, researcher and Information librarians are best
placed to make that happen.

We had a very interesting meeting with Prof Mouton from Stellenbosch.
His insights opened up a 
whole world of issues regarding ranking that we
weren't aware of.
It might be worthwhile to speak to him about this issues directly.

Do you have any ideas for the IR advancing the universities rankings at
all? Our IR is doing well, but our University site not. From the top of
my head I would think that making links to the full text in the IR might
help?

I support what Hilton says. Therefore it is crucial that we encourage
researchers and students to create links from their web pages, CV's etc,
and cite the persistent hyperlinks.

SUNScholar is poor on visibility.
Visibility depends on the MajesticSEO ratings.
The MajesticSEO ratings are based on the number hyperlinks referring
back to the domain in question.
A young repository will take time to get hyperlinks on other websites.
So the older the repository with more links referring to it, will rise
in the ranks.
This is where the help of librarians, the research office etc.. is
needed, to encourage others to link to items in the repository.

This is an ongoing and vital exercise for the success of the
repository.

Webometrics has changed their web interface, and it seems as if they
also did some work work on the rankings. See
