BioMed Central<http://www.biomedcentral.com/> the open access publisher will be holding the 3rd annual Open Access Africa<http://www.biomedcentral.com/developingcountries/events/openaccessafrica> conference at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Open Access Africa aims to bring together researchers, librarians, journal editors, funders and other decision-makers to share ideas on how open access publishing can support science and medicine in Africa.

Building on outcomes from previous successful and lively events, the conference will feature open access expertise from the University of Cape Town, the rest of Africa and beyond. The themes reflect the need for a clear message about what open access is, the importance of sustainable funding for African journals, and the complementary role of capacity building in research and in journal publishing.

The preliminary program<http://news.biomedcentral.com/t/27640957/607979339/2824241/0/> outlines key-focuses such as an 'open access overview', 'capacity building' and 'open access advocacy'. Confirmed speakers include representatives from The Wellcome Trust, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, AJOL and Malaria Journal.
