Subject: [EIFLoa] Your plans for Open Access Week 2012: October 22-28

Dear colleagues and friends,

What are your plans for Open Access Week 2012<http://www.openaccessweek.org/>? Let me know if you need any remote assistance, will be happy to help!

For our newcomers, Open Access Week - a global event, now in its 6th year, promoting open access as a new norm in scholarship and research - will take place all over the world between October 22 and 28. This year's theme is "Set the Default to Open Access". This is is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of open access, to share what they've learnt with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation.

Participating in Open Access Week can be as simple or involved as you like. Open Access Week is an invaluable chance to connect the global momentum toward open sharing with the advancement of policy changes on the local level. Universities, colleges, research institutes, funding agencies, libraries, and think tanks have used Open Access Week as a platform to host faculty votes on campus open-access policies, to discuss societal and economic benefits of open access, to promote open access publishing initiatives, and more.

Need some ideas? Check http://www.openaccessweek.org/events, http://www.eifl.net/oa-events and http://oad.simmons.edu/oadwiki/Events_celebrating_Open_Access_Week to see what others are planning. If your events are not listed there yet, please add them or let me know and I will add them. You can also share them via The Berlin 10 OA Conference facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Berlin10SouthAfrica.

Please also remember to take and share your pictures from these events. We always look for interesting and inspiring photographs to include them with your credits to the outreach materials (websites, handouts, annual report).
