<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 1.71429rem;"><span style="font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 13.5pt; color: rgb(68, 68, 68);">The Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) has launched the
<i>International</i> Repository Directory (IRD), a global tool that provides up-to-date and reliable information on open access scholarly repositories around the world. The objective of the IRD is to offer an authoritative source that allows to know in a standardized
way the characteristics of each repository, such as its technological platform, thematic scope, geographical location, affiliated institution and available functionalities.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 1.71429rem;"><span style="font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 13.5pt; color: rgb(68, 68, 68);">The directory currently has more than 7,500 records, of which approximately 700 have been verified. The information
is obtained and updated through a distributed curation model, in which national or regional organizations – called "Managers" – are responsible for monitoring and maintaining the quality of the data in the repositories of their respective countries or regions.
These organizations can appoint curators who update the information manually or in an automated manner.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 1.71429rem;"><span style="font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 13.5pt; color: rgb(68, 68, 68);">The IRD's technology platform has been developed by Antleaf and works as a centralised infrastructure, but managed
collaboratively. All software is open source with an MIT license, and the data is available under the CC0 license, allowing for unrestricted reuse. This initiative reinforces COAR's commitment to the development of a more interconnected, transparent and sustainable
global network of repositories.</span></p>
