LIRA 2030 Africa</a> programme is being implemented by the <a href="https://council.science/">
International Science Council</a> together with its Regional Office for Africa and in partnership with the
<a href="https://nasaconline.org/">Network of African Science Academies (NASAC)</a>, with financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#222222">The five-year programme aims to increase the production and use of solution-oriented, contextualized and policy-relevant knowledge on sustainable development in
cities across Africa. Given </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#222222;mso-fareast-language:FR">the complexity, uncertainty, and contested nature of urban challenges,
</span><b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#222222">the LIRA programme promotes transdisciplinary (TD) research, i.e. knowledge co-design and co-production with key stakeholders, in a specific urban context

<b>28 collaborative research projects across Africa</b>. </span><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:black">Each project brings together cities across at least two countries in Africa. The goal is to foster
research collaboration across African research institutions and learning across cities.
</span><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif">A particular emphasis is made on ensuring participation of low-income countries in research collaboration.

Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

for scientific exchange and for South–South research collaboration through Annual Research Forums. Outstanding early-career scientists also have opportunities for career development through participation in international scientific committees and conferences,
working groups and inter-governmental policy processes.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
