The Science Forum South Africa event is a highlight for us as a country, engaging citizens and visitors from all over the world, demonstrating how science benefits the man on the street. This (benefitting people) is also what we would like to achieve through opening up research conducted with public money.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif'>Following <b>Open Access</b> and the implementation of the first <b>Open Access Institutional Repositories</b> approximately 10 years ago, followed by <b>Open Access (gold) Journals</b>, the next logical step is <b>Open Data</b> – all part of opening up science (<b>Open Science</b>) activities and making science more transparent.
