He is the founding executive director of Open Access Nigeria, a research and advocacy organisation (specifically among students) working to promote free online access to peer-reviewed scholarly publications and the use of open educational resources. Open Access Nigeria started after Ogunlaja attended the Berlin 11 Satellite Conference in November 2013. For the last three years, Ogunlaja has been mobilising volunteers across Nigerian universities to engage with stakeholders and policymakers in academia and in government, with an aim to enact policies that promote access to research and education as a means of enhancing innovation and accelerating discovery. Open Access Nigeria is active in over 20 campuses across the country. Ogunlaja is also leading a campaign for universities in Nigeria to set up institutional repositories and adopt an open access policy.</span><span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><span style='font-family:"Calibri Light",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><span style='font-family:"Calibri Light",sans-serif'>Currently Dr Ahmed Ogunlaja is participating in the Mandela Washington Fellowship, the flagship programme of President Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative (</span><span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'></span><span style='font-family:"Calibri Light",sans-serif'>#YALI2016).
