Apologies for cross-posting.

Dear colleagues,

The DataCite member community is growing, and we invite you to join us! We’re holding a Membership Essentials webinar on May 7 for research organizations to learn more about membership options and how they can use DataCite services to make their research outputs and activities more open and discoverable. DataCite’s updated membership model provides an opportunity to align institutional participation with the long-term sustainability of shared, community-driven infrastructure that benefits the broader research ecosystem.

Across Africa, universities, repositories, libraries, funders, and research networks are advancing open research and strengthening the visibility of locally produced research outputs. DataCite’s updated membership model is designed to support participation from organizations working in different national and institutional contexts, including those building or expanding repository services, improving metadata practices, and connecting research outputs to a wider global ecosystem.

The webinar is for all organizations interested in joining the DataCite community. During the event, we will introduce the available membership pathways, discuss why we’re moving away from a DOI-based pricing model to a collective funding approach, and share examples of how DataCite member organizations are contributing to and benefiting from open infrastructure for research. DataCite staff will be present for Q&A, and a webinar recording will be made available afterwards.
