[IRTalk] Registration is now open for PIDfest 2026

Dear PID Enthusiast,

I’m pleased to share that registration for PIDfest 2026 is now open: https://www.pidfest.org/register 

The in-person conference will take place in Leiden, the Netherlands, from October 27–29 at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center and the LUMC Research Building. All plenary sessions will also be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person, with more information about the online option to follow soon.

PIDfest is the global meeting place for everyone who cares about keeping knowledge connected–across people, systems, disciplines, borders, and time. Whether you are fairly new to persistent identifiers (PIDs), embedding them in practice, or shaping national and global infrastructure, PIDfest offers a space to learn, connect, and help strengthen the foundations of open science.

The full program is still being developed, but an outline agenda is already available on the PIDfest website. Three excellent—and very different—keynote speakers have also been confirmed: https://www.pidfest.org/programme/keynotes 

Day one: Felienne Hermans, Professor of Computer Science Pedagogy at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Lecturer in Computer Science at the Open Schoolgemeenschap Bijlmer

Day two: Cameron Neylon, researcher and advocate for open research practices and research reform

Day three: Suze Kundu, nanochemist, science communicator, and Research Community Engagement Consultant for the NASA-funded Science Explorer (SciX) platform

Thanks to the generous support of ARDC, Crossref, DataCite, the Dutch Research Council, and ORCID, the organizers have been able to keep registration fees low. Special rates are available for participants from low- and middle-income countries, including free registration for the online conference. As space for the in-person event is limited, I encourage you to reserve your place and book accommodation as soon as possible.
