[IRTalk] Occasional courses at the University of Cape Town's DKIS

Dear Colleagues,

The Department of Knowledge & Information Stewardship (DKIS) of the Humanities Faculty at the University of Cape Town, South Africa offers master's level courses which may be taken as standalone (occasional) courses.

Teaching & Learning for LIS Professionals
48 credits at NQF Level 9 (12 weeks in the second semester of 2024)
The course equips students for teaching and learning in academic and public libraries by providing a grounding in the theoretical and practical aspects of pedagogy and curriculum design, implementation and assessment.

Digital Curation
48 credits at NQF Level 9 (12 weeks in the second semester of 2024)
The course covers the basic concepts and principles of Digital Curation in sufficient depth and breadth to allow graduates to make informed and discerning choices about media, formats, software, approaches, policies, dissemination strategies and preservation of digital artefacts.

Research Data Management
24 credits at NQF Level 9
(6 weeks in the second semester (term 4 only) of 2023)
The course explores the range of issues associated with data curation including the management of research data throughout its lifecycle and attendant cultural and disciplinary challenges.

Closing date for 2024 applications (occasional courses): 31 August 2023

All master's courses are offered in a blended learning format, making the courses convenient for students based outside of Cape Town. Courses take the form of weekly online seminars complemented by limited contact time on campus.

Occasional courses are not certificate-bearing courses, but an academic transcript is provided. Course credits may be transferred to a full master's programme as and when required.
