A recent development in the South African scholarly landscape was the addition of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)<https://doaj.org/> by the SA Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), as part of its accredited lists. Read more<https://blog.doaj.org/2021/02/04/south-african-government-places-doaj-on-list-of-accredited-journals/>. This is in addition to other lists already accredited by the DHET. According to the DHET Research Outputs policy of 2015<https://www.gov.za/sites/default/files/gcis_document/201503/38552gon188.pdf>, the Department of Higher Education and Training will subsidise articles published in journals listed in the approved lists.

The DOAJ is a website that hosts a community-curated list of open access journals, and is maintained by Infrastructure Services for Open Access. High quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals are indexed through this directory, following a strict evaluation process by scholarly publishing and subject experts.

The DOAJ website was recently updated, and new features and functionalities were made available to its users. This webinar aims to cover the following:

  * Overview & benefits of DOAJ for different types of users
  * Navigating your way through the DOAJ website (e.g. for authors (researchers/scientists) looking for a high quality OA journal to publish with, or for funders, project managers, other)
  * Apply for inclusion of a journal title within DOAJ (for editors, journal managers)
  * Registering metadata with DOAJ (journal managers)
  * Users interested in DOAJ in general, e.g. librarians
