----- apologies for cross-posting ---

Dear colleagues,

as we have learned from the postings from Sweden, Elsevier was not willing to keep the access open beyond the cancellation date June 30:
https://openaccess.blogg.kb.se/2018/05/16/sweden-stands-up-for-open-access-cancels-agreement-with-elsevier/

In Germany, on the other hand, Elsevier has not shut down access despite 200 research institutions that did not renew their contracts beyond 2017 (list of institutions can be found here: https://www.projekt-deal.de/vertragskundigungen-elsevier-2017/), about 60 of them already in their second year.

But this period is now obviously coming to an end. This week, after another meeting that did not bring any progress, Elsevier has announced to shut down access for those German institutions that are not willing to revert back to a license agreement.

Elsevier has come out with this public statement:
https://www.elsevier.com/connect/elsevier-is-committed-to-reaching-national-agreement-with-project-deal

The German Rectors Conference, on behalf of DEAL, made the following statement:

With best regards,
Ralf Schimmer
