Dear all
During the past week as well as the weekend of 31 Sept/1 Oct, a Library Carpentry workshop was presented for librarians. Earlier this year (July) there was one on Data Carpentry for statisticians/researchers/data analysts (Trieste, Italy), and one is coming up - please visit the Data Carpentry web pages for the dates. The workshop on 31 Sept/1 Oct was presented by Tim Dennis<http://www.tim-dennis.com/public/academicons/>, Juan Steyn<http://www.juansteyn.com/> and others, and was contextualized for librarians, learning about command lines, Markdown, cleaning data with OpenRefine, and much more. Thank you to Anelda van der Walt<https://www.linkedin.com/in/aneldavanderwalt/> for being instrumental in all happening and bringing it together. Tim also presented a LIASA pre-conference sprint<http://www.liasa.org.za/library-carpentry/> on the Monday, and a presentation during conference on "Positioning Libraries to Support Data Science". introducing all to data and the importance thereof. More and more artificial intelligence, machine learning, algorithms, coding, high performance computing, high computing throughput, and an understanding thereof are becoming part of our work environment - for libraries from all sectors (public, academic, special and more), as well as researchers.
You can teach yourself - the course material is online available for all to benefit within a collaborative environment:

Also join Library Carpentry tomorrow 10 Oct. for the LC call: https://weaverbel.github.io/lc-call/. Thank you Tim for sharing this invitation.
The organizing etherpad: http://pad.software-carpentry.org/lc-call where you can learn more about this event.
Hope to have you all on board!
Kind regards
Ina
