The conference had great presenters who were not scared to call a spade a spade and not a digging instrument.

I liked the powerful messages from Dr Ralf Schimmer from Max Planck digital Library and, Professor Bernard Rentier,  the former Rector from the University of Leige  , that it is time to pull off the plug – open is the only way available!

Joyce’s from UKZN’s honest & transparent dealing with Elsevier was also powerful and enlightening- food for thought indeed.

This is still relevant, although published in 2015. Negotiations with publishers towards a flip-model a possibility. SANLiC brought together great presenters during their conference<https://sanlic.org.za/programme/> the past week. Looking forward to new developments. Regarding the study on a national site licensing initiative – it still needs to be signed off by the DHET, before it can be shared (protocol). Dr Thomas Auf Der Heyde and Dr Sandile Williams also attended, and indicated that the next step will be to get together a team implementing recommendations/follow-up on the study, once it has been signed off.
