[IRTalk] Finnish Scholarly Journals Online Launches

More and more countries are starting to implement OJS<https://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/> to host, manage and publish scholarly journal publications, which is a highly affordable and sustainable solution.

In Algeria for example, the government funds all online open access journals, to encourage all to go online and open access (source: Kamel Belhamel<mailto:kamel at doaj.org>, DOAJ Ambassador Northern Africa). Form a pilot conducted by ASSAf<http://journals.assaf.org.za/>, it will more or less cost between R 5 000,00-R 7 000,00 to host a journal annually using OJS, provided that the journal takes responsibility for all editorial work and the workflow (copyediting, proofreading, layout editing and more). This is in line with what PKP asks for hosting a journal<https://pkpservices.sfu.ca/content/journal-hosting>.

The Federation of Finnish Learned Societies<https://tsv.fi/en> has launched its new Finnish Scholarly Journals Online<http://journal.fi/> platform, a national portal for the best of Finnish scholarship. The site currently features 35 journals covering a broad range of topics, and includes archives going back multiple years.

Please encourage scholarly journals to go online and open access, for society to benefit from new research.
