Dear Ina
The Department of Science and Technology is proud to announce that the keynote address during the Science Forum South Africa 2017’s plenary opening session on Thursday morning 7 December 2017, will be delivered by South Africa’s Deputy President, His Excellency, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa.

Deputy President Ramaphosa will speak during a session, starting at 11:00, which will also include the welcome address by South Africa’s Minister of Science and Technology, Minister Naledi Pandor and a message from the African Union, delivered by the AU Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology, Prof Sarah Anyang Agbor. The session will conclude with a high-level panel discussion on the role of science as an instrument for Africa’s growth and development.

The Science Forum of course already kicks off at 09:00 on Thursday morning with undoubtedly vibrant debate on topics such as “Science Journalism: Maximising Outreach, Impact and Understanding”, “Research Integrity - A Matter of Global and African Concern” or “The Future Decides Today: The Africa We Want.” At 17:15 on Thursday afternoon, be sure not to miss the talk on “Steps Towards Life: Chemistry!” by Prof Jean-Marie Lehn, the Nobel Prize laureate for Chemistry in 1987.
