[IRTalk] Open data in an open world: trend to be addressed by libraries

In addition to other forms of openness already embraced by African research intensive institutions (institutional repositories, open access journals, open educational resources). Researchers running with and creating masses of data to support research and more.

Open data high on the agenda at the SciDataCon2016<http://www.scidatacon.org/2016/>. Librarians to start thinking about their role in the area of data set policies, management, preservation and curation, dissemination, harvesting, mining, marketing and improving visibility and accessibility, citation, usage and impact, evaluation/assessment, training and more.

CKAN is a powerful data management system that makes dataaccessible - by providing tools to streamline publishing, sharing,finding and using data. CKAN is aimed at data publishers (national and regional governments, companies and organizations) wanting to make their data open and available.
