[IRTalk] A social network is not an open access repository

I also believe that sometime in the future these networks will be bought out by Elsevier or another commercial publisher, just like Mendeley and SSRN.   We need to promote our IRs more aggressively.

That is actually how they are categorised  -- as "academic social networking sites" so you can follow (via the interminable email alerts) what's being posted by your contacts and who is reading you.  I found this piece quite useful as it highlights how ephemeral these sites might be, thus making a distinction for IRs.

Thats odd... why do they classify academia and research gate as social networks?
