Subject: ASSAf putting "open into action"

Dear Colleagues

The ASSAf Scholarly Publishing Unit(SPU) supports the ASSAf mission in making research of national importance openly accessible, and disseminating it as widely possible. We are proud to announce that our article on Open Science<http://www.openaccessweek.org/profiles/blogs/academy-of-science-of-south-africa-assaf-influencing-the> is now featured on the blog for International Open Access Week<http://www.openaccessweek.org/>, celebrated worldwide from 24-30 October 2016. As a signatory to the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities<https://openaccess.mpg.de/Berlin-Declaration>, and together with other organisations worldwide, ASSAf aims to - among others - find ways and solutions to further support the development of policy frameworks in order to facilitate optimal use and access to publicly funded research, of interest to the SA community in general. ASSAf will be putting "open into action" when partnering with the SA Dept. of Science and Technology in starting the dialogue on an Open Science Policy Framework, with the first of a series of workshops scheduled for 12 and 13 December 2016.

ASSAf SPU will also be participating in the upcoming Science Forum South Africa<http://www.sfsa.co.za/>, and would like to invite all to the panel discussion on Open Science, scheduled for 8 December 2016, 13:30-15:00, Emerald Room, CSIR International Convention Centre. Click to view<http://www.sfsa.co.za/programme/> the draft programme.

More information on ASSAf Open Science events planned for December 2016<http://journals.assaf.org.za/blog/2016/10/26/on-the-assaf-calendar-december-2016/> is available from the ASSAf SPU Blog.

With kind regards
