Dear Colleagues

The University of Cape Town Libraries, in collaboration with SPARC Africa, SPARC US and LIASA, is pleased to announce an Open Access Symposium in Cape Town, 3-9 December 2016.

The theme for the meeting is Empowerment through open scholarship: transcending boundaries. The theme exploits ‘openness’ to foster collaborative research activities and sharing that transcend the boundaries of resources and capacity, and brings researchers and readers into one global community. The openness discourse will centre around: open source; open access to scholarship; open data; open education resources; and open publishing. The most significant ‘take-away’ from the symposium is strategies for empowerment and strategies for innovation for the betterment of society.

The symposium will play host to a range of national and international experts on ‘open’.

The target audience for this meeting is librarians and information workers, researchers, funding agencies, LIS associations, university executives, LIS students and government officials.

The broad programme is as follows:
