Open Access is the form of scholarly communication that seeks to enhance
access to research literature. In Tanzania, OA initiatives manifested in
2012 where a number of academic and research institutions established
digital repositories for collecting, preserving, archiving and
disseminating intellectual output. Currently Tanzania has 11 repositories
that are registered on www.opendoar.org. However, some of these lack
policies to guide their operations.

COTUL in collaboration with EIFL through a financial support from the
Swedish Program for ICT in Developing Regions (SPIDER) will conduct
advocacy and capacity building program from June 2016 to 2017 to members of
research institutions in Tanzania.
