Websites come and go, and often change their internal structure, making it
hard to ensure that links stay active for a long time. It’s annoying to
click on a broken link, but in scholarly publishing, link rot is especially
problematic for citations to journal articles. In this PLOScast, Elizabeth
Seiver speaks with Geoffrey Builder, Strategic Director at CrossRef, about
link rot, unique digital identifiers and the infrastructure needed in order
to support persistent links.
