Brief biographies

Karen du Toit has been a librarian and archivist for more than 25 years. The last ten years she has been working at the SABC Radio Archives<http://www.sabc.co.za/wps/portal/rbf/librariesdetail?id=ce4eca804c14b0e48f6f8f8f9f800553> as an Afrikaans archivist. She has been blogging from 2008 in a personal capacity. From 2009 she and another colleague were tasked to start a Web 2.0 presence for the SABC Media Libraries<http://www.sabc.co.za/wps/portal/rbf/librariesdetail?id=ce4eca804c14b0e48f6f8f8f9f800553>. That included a website as well as a blog, with all the other social media platforms incorporated in the mix. She is passionate about blogging as a way to further one’s own professional development, but also to increase the awareness and reach of libraries and archives in the local community, as well as reaching a global audience.

Ingrid Thomson has been actively involved in LIASA related activities and governance for many years. She is Chair-elect HELIG, and is currently enrolled as a student for the MPhl (Digital Curation) at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
