Those consumer figures are up by a lot compared with when I last had to
point all this out, and among businesses it's a similar story. Indeed,
multiple studies suggest that businesses and government organizations
around the globe are increasingly relying on Linux and other open source
software as well--not just on servers but on desktops too.

Bottom line: The old, much-abused “1 percent” figure for Linux's desktop
market share is just plain wrong--probably more than we'll ever know thanks
to the lack of sales data for this freely downloadable and sharable open
source operating system.
