Dear IT Section Colleagues

*** please circulate this on your lists ***

The IFLA IT Section in conjunction with Stellenbosch University is pleased
to announce registration for the IFLA 2015 IT Section pre-conference: "Open
Source: Transforming information access in libraries". This pre-conference
will comprise 4 concurrent workshops on the first day and a full day
session of papers, and is an opportunity for libraries to experience
current developments in open source for Big Data, Library Management,
Digital Libraries and Publication Management. Registration details and
the programme are available at

http://conferences.sun.ac.za/index.php/IFLA_IT/IFLA-IT2015

We encourage early registration as numbers are limited.

Libraries have been early innovators and adopters of open source. Systems
like DSpace and Koha are widely implemented in institutions of all sorts,
and debate has largely moved beyond the question of whether open source is
good for libraries to when and how to implement it and new generations of
open source software that are emerging. Projects such as DSpace and Kuali
include multi-institution collaboration as a method for project funding and
support, while Koha has built a rich, diverse community of contributors
around the world. Wide adoption of open source has encouraged innovative
approaches to open source in all aspects of library operation.

This pre-conference will comprise 4 concurrent workshops on the first day
and a full day session of papers, and is an opportunity for libraries to
experience current developments in open source for Big Data, Library
Management, Digital Libraries and Publication Management.
