The incumbent will be responsible for:
Administering the UP digital research repository;
Administering the interfaces relevant to the repository, e.g.
digitisation, open scholarship, copyright and digital preservation;
Administering the client interfaces with the repository in consultation
with information specialists and other relevant managers;
Continuous innovation of repository practices by implementing relevant
new tools and practices;
Administering quality assurance of the repository work process in
conjunction with the Open Scholarship Manager.

B-degree and three years’ relevant work experience in support of a
research environment and/or the research process in an academic library;
B-degree and one year institutional repository experience; OR
Grade 12 and eight years’ IT knowledge and experience (such as
DuraSpace, Linex and Java).

Appropriate language and communication skills;
Accuracy and a sense of responsibility;
Interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence;
Problem solving, organisational and negotiation skills;
Management and training skills;
Creativity and innovative thinking;
Ability to work independently and in a team;
Conflict management skills.

Insight into the information/knowledge, publishing and research
Knowledge of digitization and repositories;
Knowledge of copyright and Creative Commons licencing;
Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat software;
Knowledge of research and development;
Project management training and/or experience;
Specific expertise in terms of IT applications e.g. repository software
(currently DSpace), Java programming.

PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate
in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.
The total remuneration package for this position ranges from
approximately R 250 904 to R 300 927 as determined by UP policy
guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to
standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral
cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies
per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and
contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
