Dear Colleagues

>From time to time journal editors might need some managerial/statistical information, which is then used to take decisions/ work on journal strategy. Most of all it is important that journals and journal content are indexed by Google. Tools available to conduct an analysis for individual journal titles:

Free/Open
· Publish or Perish<http://www.harzing.com/pophelp/journal-impact.htm>: Download<http://www.harzing.com/pop.htm>
· Google Scholar Metrics<http://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=top_venues>: Guidelines<http://scholar.google.co.za/intl/en/scholar/metrics.html#inclusion>
· Google Scholar Citations Profile (create own): Create<http://scholar.google.co.za/intl/en/scholar/citations.html> profile for each journal
· SCImago Journal & Country Rank<http://www.scimagojr.com/> (Elsevier Scopus): Journal List<http://www.elsevier.com/journals/title/a> - Criteria<http://www.elsevier.com/online-tools/scopus/content-overview#content-policy-and-selection> - Suggest<http://suggestor.step.scopus.com/suggestTitle/step1.cfm%20>
Subscription
· InCites Journal Citation Reports<http://wokinfo.com/products_tools/analytical/jcr/> (Thomson Reuters WoS): Criteria<http://wokinfo.com/essays/journal-selection-process/> - Submit<http://ip-science.thomsonreuters.com/info/journalsubmission/>
· Scopus - see SCImago Journal & Country Rank<http://www.scimagojr.com/> (Elsevier Scopus): Journal List<http://www.elsevier.com/journals/title/a> - Criteria<http://www.elsevier.com/online-tools/scopus/content-overview#content-policy-and-selection> - Suggest<http://suggestor.step.scopus.com/suggestTitle/step1.cfm%20>
Librarians can assist journal editors but also end-users with the above tools, and help determine the impact of specific journal titles. Journal editors can also experiment and try it themselves.
Also very useful for evaluating journal titles to help an author decide whether he/she wants to publish in a specific journal. This applies to both open and subscription journals.
Kind regards
Ina
