The University of Cape Town Research Office and UCT Libraries will be hosting the Research Evaluation and Performance Measurement Conference from Monday 5 May to Wednesday 7 May 2014 in Cape Town, South Africa. The purpose of the conference is to enhance research evaluation so that it can better inform strategic research policy and planning. The conference will conclude with a short bibliometrics workshop. The conference will also provide the five universities which have participated in the Research Management Tools in Support of Academic Research in South Africa, Ghana and Uganda project, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY), with a platform to report their findings.

The project has provided three universities in South Africa (University of the Witwatersrand, University of Cape Town and University of Pretoria), Makerere University (Uganda) and the University of Ghana with essential, modern web-based research management and evaluation tools.
This international conference will bring together experts in university education, scholars, researchers and research administrators, funders and grant makers, librarians and data administrators, to discuss  established and new approaches to evaluating research performance.  The conference themes include research evaluation and management, research measurement practice, institutional collaboration, research support in African universities and research management tools.
