[Irtalk] Institutional repositories and altmetrics

Dear Eileen

I think it pretty much depends on the functionality offered by the software. We are using DSpace. I remember a previous version had the option where one could e-mail an article to another person. I'm also pretty sure that it might be added in future versions of DSpace. We prefer not to do any customisation ourselves, but would rather contribute code etc.

I think it would be excellent to have a social networking toolbar available in a repository! Especially with Altmetrics gaining so much momentum. It can be used along with the current bibliometric/citation analysis tools such as Google Citations, ORCiD, Web of Science, Scopus etc.

I have recently become interested in Altmetric<http://www.altmetric.com/> as a tool to measure the social media impact of research articles, etc.,  and would be interested to know if any repositories developers are including "Share" options at article/thesis level in their repositories?
