[Irtalk] Webometrics ranking for repositories

I support what Hilton says. Therefore it is crucial that we encourage researchers and students to create links from their web pages, CV's etc, and cite the persistent hyperlinks.

SUNScholar is poor on visibility.
Visibility depends on the MajesticSEO ratings.
The MajesticSEO ratings are based on the number hyperlinks referring back to the domain in question.
A young repository will take time to get hyperlinks on other websites.
So the older the repository with more links referring to it, will rise in the ranks.
This is where the help of librarians, the research office etc.. is needed, to encourage others to link to items in the repository.

This is an ongoing and vital exercise for the success of the repository.

Webometrics has changed their web interface, and it seems as if they also did some work work on the rankings. See http://repositories.webometrics.info/ An improvement I think.
