Let ACRL's Scholarly Communication Toolkit<http://scholcomm.acrl.ala.org> help you prepare to lead events on your campus during Open Access Week, October 22-28, 2012. Open Access Week<http://www.openaccessweek.org> , a global event organized by SPARC, is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they've learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.
The ACRL Scholarly Communication Toolkit can help you get involved and has recently been updated. Adapt and use materials like updated handouts<http://www.scholcomm.acrl.ala.org/node/32> and presentations<http://www.scholcomm.acrl.ala.org/node/12> from the ACRL Scholarly Communication Road Show. Learn about the launch of SCOAP3<http://www.scholcomm.acrl.ala.org/node/61> and the participating publishers and journals. Watch Peter Suber's recent discussion of open access<http://www.scholcomm.acrl.ala.org/node/47> and its future. Find out fair use best practices<http://www.scholcomm.acrl.ala.org/node/45#Fair%20Use> from new videos.
Let this valuable resource support you with scholarly communication discussions inside the library and for outreach programs to faculty and administrators. The ACRL Scholarly Communication Toolkit provides context and background by summarizing key issues to offer quick, basic information on scholarly communication topics. It also links to examples of specific tools, including handouts, presentation templates and videos for librarians to adapt and use on their own campuses.
Get involved. Participating in Open Access Week can be as simple or involved as you like. It can also be a chance to let your imagination have full rein and come up with something more ambitious, wacky, fun. ACRL has a firm commitment , per its strategic plan<http://www.ala.org/acrl/aboutacrl/strategicplan/stratplan>, to support librarians as they work accelerate the transition to a more open system of scholarship. Be part of the movement to influence scholarly publishing policies and practices toward a more open system.
