[Irtalk] Dissertation vs Thesis

hi
these terms have been discussed at length at NDLTD meetings, especially
during the drafting of the ETDMS standard.
it seems that different countries around the world associate different
meanings with the terms - we could never come to any consistent
interpretation. as a result, the future ETDMS standard will encode this
information numerically to correspond to "pre-doctorate" and
"pre-masters" documents.
