*Engaging research partners is essential in order to ensure the repository
does not remain virtually empty after launch and that the repository is
used in the current research workflow.*

Remote research institutions or divisions can deposit items, harvest items
or receive alerts for new items on the institutional repository. Basically
third parties can "pull/harvest" items from the repository using the
OAI-PMH and OAI-ORE services and third parties can "deposit/submit" items
using the SWORD service. This open interoperability can be achieved with
DSpace.
